Nurse Practitioner
Melissa is a certified nurse practitioner who enjoys bringing light into people’s lives, especially when they may not be feeling their best. She has spent the majority of her nursing career dedicated to critical care. Since joining Dallas Pulmonary and Critical Care in 2012, she has risen to the role of Chief Operating Officer where she manages business operations and more than 100 employees. She is passionate about the role of nurse practitioners in healthcare and their capacity to bring compassionate care, knowledge, and critical thinking to create positive outcomes for patients.
Melissa holds a master of science from The University of Texas at Arlington’s acute care nurse practitioner program and a bachelor of science in nursing from Edgewood College in Wisconsin. She began her nursing career in 1998. She is ACLS, BLS, and ATLS certified. Melissa volunteers her time as an animal foster mom and loves spending time with her husband, their dog, and the rest of her family. She loves traveling, hiking, finding new destinations and adventures, and reading.
Nurse Practitioner
Leia is a certified nurse practitioner with more than 14 years of healthcare experience. She began working as an intensivist nurse practitioner in 2013 with Dallas Pulmonary and Critical Care and quickly became integral to the company’s leadership, growth, and nurse practitioner education program. After working through the pandemic in several ICUs across the metroplex, she is increasingly passionate about encouraging patients to invest in their health and overall wellbeing. Leia holds a master of science in nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor of science from the University of Oklahoma. Leia is a native of Bedford, Texas, the home of Birch Medical & Wellness headquarters and where her involvement in the medical field began as the vice president of the healthcare pre-professional program (or Future Medical Professionals program) at Trinity High School. She is married with three small children and a cat named Max. Leia enjoys volunteering for her children’s schools and spending her free time working out, traveling, and going on adventures with her family.
Front Desk Coordinator
Meagan fell in love with providing top-quality customer service at age 16 during her first job as a hostess at a small family-owned restaurant. Born in Louisiana, she is very knowledgeable about southern hospitality. She began her front office journey working in the offshore oil and gas industry for an international petroleum service company. Meagan has always had a desire to work in the medical field. In 2018 she joined True MD as a front office coordinator and remained there until it closed in early 2022. Meagan enjoys being the first person patients see when they enter Birch Medical & Wellness. Her goal is to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable on arrival. Meagan is married with two daughters and enjoys relaxing on a patio with good music, doing hair and makeup, having family time, and learning at least one new thing a year.
Medical Office Assistant
Jenifer has eleven years of experience in the medical industry and prides herself on being dependable and organized. Born and raised in rural Texas, she moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area at age 19 and worked in the manufacturing and logistics industry. After taking a few years off to raise her children, she joined True MD where she worked in both the front and back offices for eleven years until the practice closed in 2022.
Married and the mother of two children, she has been a baseball mom, cheerleading mom, and on the Trinity High School cheer board where her children attended high school. Her son is a kinesiology major at Texas Tech University and her daughter is licensed as an advanced esthetician and professional laser technician. As a lover of animals, Jenifer was a dog foster until adopting two of her own. She is strong in her faith and loves spending time with her family.
Nurse Practitioner
Petra Adams is a board-certified nurse practitioner who has more than 13 years of nursing experience. She holds a master of science in nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor of science in nursing from The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. She is a 2022 D Magazine Excellence in Nursing honoree.
Petra finds critical care nursing very rewarding and has a passion for aesthetics. She loves helping people feel good, confident about their appearance, and empowered to become the best version of themselves. Petra is married with two children. She loves to travel, try new restaurants, her Peloton, cook new recipes, and all things related to home decor and design. She usually spends her free time with her kids or listening to live music on date nights.
Business Director
Tams has 27 years of experience in the healthcare industry and a deep love for helping people. She served as the practice and surgery center administrator for Dr. Robert True and his mission to change lives one patient at a time at TrueMD until its close in early 2022. It is her strong desire to continue delivering life-changing, specialized care to each patient.
Tams developed a well-rounded background in business and organizational structure, studying accounting and business in college and working as an accountant for a major oil and gas company. She has won many awards for her creativity and ideas in progressing business applications.
A native of Dallas, Tams is married and has two adult children. Over the years she has been an active community volunteer, including three years on the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board. She enjoys Jeeping, gardening, working out, and learning to play golf. Her motto is “Live life, love life, and, above all, choose happy.”
Founding Physician and Medical Director
Dr. Tung Tran is a board-certified internal medicine, pulmonary, and critical care physician and the president and co-founder of Dallas Pulmonary and Critical Care, a single-specialty pulmonary and critical care medicine group that provides 24/7 ICU staffing for multiple hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
After more than a decade of working with the hospital's most critically ill patients, Dr. Tran decided to launch Birch Medical & Wellness. A practice focused on preventative medicine and improving quality of life. Dr. Tran is passionate about helping people optimize and maintain their health and build resilience against disease and decline.
He earned a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University where he graduated magna cum laude and attended Texas A&M University Health Science Center College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Dr. Tran is very involved with physician leadership and sits on several committees to help steer patient advocacy and improve the quality of care for all populations. His professional interests include sleep, functional medicine, hormones, and regenerative medicine. Outside of practicing medicine, he enjoys cars, mountain biking, hiking outdoors, traveling, electronics, engineering, astrophotography, landscape photography, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
